Main sex hormones & what they do

follicle-stimulating hormone

Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), helps release eggs. Not having enough or having too much of this hormone can make it harder to get pregnant.

luteinizing hormone

Lutenizing hormone (LH) is a chemical messengers that signal the sex organs to start processes needed to support one's reproductive health.

estrogen

Estrogen, like all hormones, is a chemical messenger. It tells your body when to start and stop processes affecting your sexual and reproductive health. These processes cause important changes in your body.

progesterone

Progesterone is a hormone that's produced mainly by the ovaries. It's one of the hormones that fluctuate with the menstrual period. There is less progesterone after menopause.

Inter-relationships

The female reproductive system works together with many other body systems to successfully do its job, including the endocrine system and the nervous system.

The endocrine system uses glands to release hormones. A large part of the reproductive system is creating and receiving certain hormones. The reproductive system communicates with the endocrine system to get this done.

The nervous system works closely with the reproductive system as well.
